Abstract: The organisms that make up the soil macrofauna are sensitive to changes in the environment, whether physical, chemical or biological. The type of vegetation cover can influence the diversity of soil fauna. We assessed the abundance and composition of the edaphic macrofauna in areas of Woodland, Grassland and a Fragment of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest in the UFRRJ Botanical Garden, Seropédica, RJ. To do this, we estimated the total abundance of organisms in the community (ind/m-2), relative contribution (%), total richness, average richness and Pielou's index of uniformity. The soil fauna was collected in the rainy season using the Tropical Soil Biology Fertility (TSBF) method, where five soil monoliths were randomly collected in each area at a depth of 0-10 cm. It was concluded that the type of vegetation cover influenced the abundance and composition of the soil fauna community, with the taxonomic groups Chilopoda, Coleoptera, Formicidae, Isopoda and Oligochaeta being collected in all areas.
