CARACTERIZAÇÃO BIOMÉTRICA DE FRUTOS E SEMENTES DE Magonia pubescens A. St.-Hil.
O timbó (M. pubescens) é uma
espécie que tem potencial ornamental, podendo
ser usado na composição de jardins e praças
e, principalmente, para arborização de ruas.
O objetivo com este trabalho foi verificar a
variação dos caracteres biométricos dos frutos
e das sementes de timbó. Os frutos foram
coletados na região do município de Chapada
dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso e levados ao
laboratório de sementes da Universidade
Federal de Mato Grosso para mensuração das
dimensões e massa dos frutos e sementes. As
dimensões de comprimento, largura, espessura
foram medidas com auxilio de paquímetro digital
e a massa pesada em balança de precisão. A
média de comprimento dos frutos foi de 90,09
mm, a largura 120,07 mm, a espessura 114,56
mm, a massa 233,09 g, e a média do número
de sementes por fruto foi de 19,53. Já a média
de comprimento das sementes foi de 48,07
mm, a largura 88,89 mm, a espessura 4,19
mm e a massa 2,78 g. A massa dos frutos foi
a característica em que se observou maior
variação. E a maior variação nas características
biométricas de sementes de timbó ocorre na
massa fresca e na espessura das sementes,
indicando variabilidade no tamanho das
sementes

Abstract:
The timbó (M. pubescens) is a
species that has ornamental potential, It can be
used in the composition of gardens and squares,
and especially for urban trees. The objective
of this study was to determine the variation of biometric characters of the fruits and seeds of timbó. The fruits were collected in the
region of the municipality of Chapada dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso and taken to the
seed laboratory of the Federal University of Mato Grosso to measure the size and mass
of the fruits and seeds. The dimensions of length, width and thickness were measured
with the aid of a digital caliper and the mass weighed in a precision scale. The average
length of the fruits was 90.09 mm, the width 120.07 mm, the thickness 114.56 mm, the
mass 233.09 g, and the average number of seeds per fruit was 19.53. The mean seed
length was 48.07 mm, the width 88.89 mm, the thickness was 4.19 mm and the mass
was 2.78 g. The mass of the fruits was the characteristic in which greater variation was
observed. And the greatest variation in the biometric characteristics of timbó seeds
occurs in fresh mass and seed thickness, indicating variability in seed size.
