Abstract: 1. INTRODUCTION: Prostate cancer is the second most diagnosed and the most lethal cancer in men in Brazil. Risk factors include advanced age and BRCA mutations. 2. CASE REPORT: A 61-year-old man with a BRCA2 mutation and a family history of prostate and breast cancer. Diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer. 3. RESULTS: Using pedigree tools and estimation platforms, it was possible to analyze family history and risk factors and estimate the probability of developing cancer, in addition to allowing for a comparison between mutation carriers and non-carriers 4. DISCUSSION: The types of the disease, its progression, and the main risk factors are explored. Additionally, the methods used for diagnosis, prognosis, and staging are addressed, as are the barriers associated with genetic testing. 5. CONCLUSION: Genetics improves the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of prostate cancer, benefiting patients and families.
