Abstract: The present study aims to assess the feasibility of calculating Indicator ODS 11.7.1 for a specific sample within the city of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. This indicator is defined as the proportion of built-up area within urban zones that is dedicated to open public spaces, with an emphasis on accessibility for all demographic groups, specifically based on gender, age, and the presence of disabilities. ODS 11, situated within the broader context of the Sustainable Development Goals, focuses on achieving sustainable cities and communities, with the goal of making them more inclusive, safe, resilient, and ecologically sustainable. The specific target of ODS 11.7 is the promotion, by the year 2030, of universal access to green and public spaces that are safe, inclusive, and accessible, with a particular emphasis on ensuring access to these spaces for women, children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. The current research aims to investigate the feasibility of establishing this indicator in a selected geographical area, using open data sources that include satellite imagery and government information. The defined area of interest for this study encompasses the neighborhood of Ipanema, located in the southern zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. This neighborhood was chosen due to its significant concentration of individuals with disabilities. It is worth noting that this study will be limited to the analysis of the proportion of open public areas, without considering demographic information of the local population, which will be the subject of investigation in a future study.
