Abstract: Objective: To analyze burnout among healthcare professionals, identifying its causes, mental health implications, and intervention strategies. Context: Burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment, is a growing issue among healthcare professionals, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This phenomenon has serious consequences for both the well-being of professionals and the quality of care. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scielo, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, covering studies from 2015 to 2023, including quantitative, qualitative, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Results: Burnout results from a complex interaction of individual, professional, and organizational factors. Organizational interventions, such as work schedule restructuring and psychological support, and individual interventions, like resilience training, have proven effective. Conclusion: Burnout is a systemic issue requiring a multifaceted approach for its prevention and treatment. Investing in the well-being of healthcare professionals is crucial to ensuring safe and effective patient care.
