Abstract: Annual ryegrass is one of the main forage species used in the southern region of Brazil. Among the diseases that affect the production of this forage is blast. The objective of this study was to evaluate the reaction of the ryegrass genotype BRS Ponteiro to natural infection by P. grisea under field conditions in Itaqui-RS. To characterize the disease reaction, 60 leaves collected from the middle third of plants were evaluated, with intensity of 2 symptoms representative of the area using the IRRI scale. The average reaction score of the BRS Ponteiro cultivar was 6.75, that is, a susceptibility reaction. Most samples presented more than 40% of the leaf area with necrosis and sporulative lesions. The presence of hyaline, pyriform conidiophores and conidia with two septa typical of the genus Pyricularia was observed in the lesions. In conclusion, BRS Ponteiro is susceptible to blast in the Itaqui, western border of RS, in the year 2024.
