Abstract: Milk, without further specification, is the product of complete and uninterrupted milking, under hygienic conditions, of healthy, well-fed and rested cows, and is a foodstuff with excellent nutritional value. The aim of this study was to raise awareness among producers of small dairy farms in the municipality of Satubinha, Maranhão, about the implementation of good practices in this production system. The study was carried out in the rural area of Juçaral on ten properties that produce cow's milk. To this end, producers were given guidance on good management practices in this production system. So that the producers could see the problem, water samples used in milking were collected for microbiological and physical-chemical analysis, as well as milk samples for physical-chemical analysis, testing for beta-lactam antimicrobials and gentamicin, Somatic Cell Count (SCC) and testing for fraud and adulterants in the milk. It was observed that all the water samples collected on the properties were in disagreement with Annex XX of Consolidation Ordinance No. 5/2017 of the Ministry of Health. The physicochemical analysis of the milk showed alterations, especially in cryoscopy, density and acidity, as well as the presence of antibiotic residues and high somatic cell counts. In this way, the producers who took part in this study were able to see the flaws in the management of their production system so that they could consciously implement the good practice actions they were instructed to follow.
