Between science and spirituality: Pythagorean music and astrology
En esta investigación abordaremos la relación existente entre ciencia y espiritualidad dentro de la filosofía pitagórica. A pesar de lo problemático que resulta estudiar esta filosofía, sea por la ausencia de fuentes sólidas o de sistema único de ideas, profundizaremos en las relaciones entre matemática racional y vida espiritual de esta secta. Para ello, resolveremos dos objetivos: a) describir la relación entre ciencia y religiosidad dentro del pitagorismo y b) detallar los dos ejercicios numérico-espirituales más importantes: música y astrología. Nuestra metodología se basa el análisis filosófico de textos antiguos y modernos sobre el pitagorismo. Asimismo, usaremos el método de las ciencias de las religiones para abordar el fenómeno espiritual, místico y religioso. De esta manera, concluiremos que la filosofía pitagórica propone una doctrina de salvación y purificación del alma, iniciática y esotérica, a través del ejercicio de los números sagrados aplicados en la música y la astrología.

Abstract:
In this investigation we will study the relationship between science and spirituality within Pythagorean philosophy. Despite how problematic it is to study this philosophy, be it due to the absence of solid sources or a single system of ideas, we will delve into the relationships between rational mathematics and the spiritual life of this sect. To do this, we will solve two objectives: a) describe the relationship between science and religiosity within Pythagoreanism and b) detail the two most important numerical-spiritual exercises: music and astrology. Our methodology is based on the philosophical analysis of ancient and modern texts on Pythagoreanism. Likewise, we will use the method of the sciences of religions to address the spiritual, mystical and religious phenomenon. In this way, we will conclude that the Pythagorean philosophy proposes a doctrine of salvation and purification of the soul, initiatory and esoteric, through the exercise of the sacred numbers applied in music and astrology.
