Abstract: This article examines fundamental aspects of the medieval epic tradition through an in-depth study of Beowulf, one of the most emblematic works of the period. Likely composed between the 8th and 11th centuries AD, Beowulf, as observed by Vizioli (1992) and Borges (2002), not only recounts heroic deeds but also serves as a valuable testament to the evolution of the English language in early England. Its distinctive linguistic ornamentation and intricate narrative structure have ensured its enduring legacy, solidifying it as a literary milestone that continues to captivate scholars and readers alike. Recognizing the poem’s significance, this study explores its narrative, analyzing the literary, historical, linguistic, and social dimensions that establish Beowulf as a cornerstone of the epic tradition. Bibliographic sources from diverse disciplines, including poetry theory and literary historiography, were consulted to construct a well-founded and comprehensive analysis. By illuminating this foundational medieval text, the article seeks to foster a deeper appreciation of epic literature, encouraging academic and cultural engagement with a body of work essential to understanding the development of heroic narratives and Anglo-Saxon cultural identity.
