Abstract: Sarcopenia is a condition characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass and strength in the elderly, with significant impacts on functionality and quality of life. The use of nutritional supplements, such as whey protein, has been investigated as a promising therapeutic strategy for sarcopenia treatment. In this systematic literature review, we examined the benefits of whey protein supplementation in elderly individuals with sarcopenia. Analysis of the included studies demonstrated that whey protein promoted improvements in muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical function in individuals affected by sarcopenia. However, further research is needed to confirm and expand upon these findings, as well as to establish clear guidelines for the use of whey protein in the treatment of sarcopenia in the elderly.
