Abstract: Introduction: Preterm infants, characterized by birth before 37 weeks, present complications resulting from premature birth, such as congenital or infectious pathologies, making them vulnerable and requiring monitoring in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. This leads to high rates of neonatal deaths, as well as specific and advanced care for those who survive. The Kangaroo Method (KM) was created with the aim of assisting in the early formation and development of premature and low birth weight newborns (NB), aiming for a healthy recovery and a reduction in the mortality rate. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of the Kangaroo Method in Neonatal Intensive Care Units for premature and low birth weight patients. Methodology: Integrative and descriptive review, from 2016 to 2023, searched in the VHL, PubMed and LILACS databases. Using the descriptors in Health Sciences (DECS) in English: Kangaroo-Mother Care Method; Newborn; Mortality; Physiological Phenomena. Included were systematic reviews, meta-analyses and randomized clinical trials in English about the survival rate based on the technique, growth and development of the neonate. Results: In view of the above, MC has several benefits related to the complications manifested by the neonate, such as weight gain, breastfeeding, reduction in hospital infection and consequently a reduction in mortality, promoting hemodynamic stability and reducing the length of hospital stay. Conclusion: MC effectively contributes to the condition presented by the NB, especially in its development and vitality, favoring the development and progress of the neonate. Conclusion: The MC effectively contributes to the condition presented by the NB, especially in its development and vitality, favoring the development and progress of the neonate.
