A meningite criptocócica é uma infecção fúngica grave, principalmente em pacientes imunocomprometidos, como aqueles com HIV/AIDS. Apesar dos progressos, limitações significativas, como toxicidade e custo elevado, impactam o manejo em países de baixa renda. Abordagens recentes, incluindo combinações terapêuticas, oferecem esperança, mas enfrentam barreiras práticas. Estratégias individualizadas e políticas que ampliem o acesso a diagnósticos e tratamentos são cruciais.

  • Abstract: Cryptococcal meningitis is a severe fungal infection, particularly in immunocompromised patients, such as those with HIV/AIDS. This study examined advancements in treatment, emphasizing antifungals like Amphotericin B, flucytosine, and fluconazole. Despite progress, significant limitations, such as toxicity and high costs, affect management in low-income countries. Recent approaches, including therapeutic combinations, offer hope but face practical barriers. Individualized strategies and policies enhancing access to diagnostics and treatment are critical.
