Abstract: Breast cancer is the largest cause of death among the world's female population, so chemotherapy is considered the most widely used treatment to combat the disease; however, this category of treatment has been correlated with changes in brain function, more specifically cognitive function, which includes learning, attention, executive functions, memory and concentration. This research aimed to investigate the cognitive functions in women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Forty-three women participated in this research, divided into three groups: women diagnosed with cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy, healthy women and women diagnosed with cancer who have already undergone chemotherapy treatment. To achieve the objectives suggested in this research, the following instruments were used: Semi-structured Interview and the Mini Mental State Exam which evaluated memory, attention, cognitive flexibility, planning capacity and inhibitory control. The analysis of the results was finalized through descriptive and comparative techniques. The results showed that women with breast cancer in chemotherapy treatment showed signs of executive decline for some abilities, such as inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility, however others are preserved, such as planning ability. The results also indicate that the patients under treatment exhibited significant decline in their working memory. Although the results show that there is a willingness to decline in EF in women undergoing chemotherapy treatment, it is not possible to precisely define the presence of this interdependence. This can be explained by the limited number of volunteers, the heterogeneity of the sample, and also given the absence of methodological uniformity and the lack of a definition of the constructs and subcomponents related to Executive Functions.
