Abstract: Introduction: Cerebral palsy is the leading cause of motor disability in childhood, with an estimated incidence of 1.6 per 1,000 live births. This health condition has a significant impact on the child and his family throughout their life cycle, affecting the family dynamics, their socio-economic context and quality of life. The Specialist Community Health Nurse in the Family Health Nurse area cares for the family as a care unit, considering it a dynamic and complex system, promoting its training, identifying the health needs of the persons who are part of it and proposing appropriate interventions to the family system. Objectives: To identify and evaluate the family needs, intervene through a systemic and collaborative approach, empower the family to solve the problems identified, and assess the self-perceived family quality of life by parents. Methodology: Case study in the context of home visitation. Data collection was elaborated through a semi-structured interview applying the operational matrix of the Dynamic Model of Family Assessment and Intervention (DMFAI) in the three dimensions: structural, development and functional, and their respective scales, and the Family Quality of Life Inventory – Short Version. A Specialist Community Nursing Professional in the Family Health Nursing area (SCNPFHN) accompanied the family between January and May 2023, performing the evaluation and family intervention in six home visits. Results: Middle-class nuclear family formed by a heterosexual couple and a child with cerebral palsy. The nursing focus with the need for intervention were identified: Marital Satisfaction and Parental Role; the corresponding diagnoses were formulated: Unmaintained Marital Satisfaction (Inappropriate paternal Sexual Interaction) and Inadequate Parental Role (Saturation of the maternal role). During the home visits, SCNPFHN interventions were implemented to empower families. At the end of the follow-up, there was an improvement in parental role and maintenance of marital satisfaction. The values related to the self-perceived quality of family life increased (maternal, 52 vs 63 points and paternal, 58 vs 68 points). Conclusion: The evaluation and family intervention performed by SCNPFHN, based on the DMFAI, contributed to the family’s capacity to solve the problems identified, promoting the adaptation to Parental Role and maintenance of Marital Satisfaction, as well as led to a significant improvement in the self-perceived quality of family life.
