Abstract: The economic evaluation of an innovative technology generated during laboratory research represents an important step towards scaling up the process and introducing the resulting product to the market. Several research projects are currently underway that generate products or technologies with the potential to enter the Brazilian and international markets. Among these new products, renewable chemicals obtained from the utilization of industrial waste or by-products stand out. Besides representing cost savings due to the low cost of raw materials, they also have environmental advantages, minimizing impacts on soil, water, air, and ecosystems in general. The renewable products considered in this chapter were lignin and sodium lignosulfonate (SLS), produced from sugarcane bagasse. These products exhibit good adsorption on metallic surfaces, high interaction with the metal's active sites, and are biodegradable, revealing them as potential green corrosion inhibitors. In the economic evaluation, historical and analogical estimation methodologies were applied, using the Industrial Cost Indicators (ICI) of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and the estimation of the selling price through markup. The results demonstrate the economic viability of using lignin and LSS, obtained from sugarcane bagasse, as corrosion inhibitors. Specifically, lignin extracted using the organosolv method stands out as a green inhibitor with high economic potential, and together with the proven technical results, positions it as an attractive renewable option to replace current synthetic inhibitors.
