Avaliação do Nível de Conhecimento de Estudantes Sobre: Profilaxia Antibiótica na Prevenção de Endocardite Infecciosa

• Abstract: Introduction: The oral cavity acts as a gateway to the human body and infective endocarditis is a serious heart disease whose development may be related to the bacteria present in the mouth, presenting a high risk of life. Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of the last year undergraduate students of the Dental School of Juiz de Fora-MG, on the infectious endocarditis disease, associated to dental procedures, due to its degree of severity. Method: interviews were carried out with 100 students from the last year of the Dentistry course of the colleges of Juiz de Fora - MG, a standard questionnaire was used for all students interviewed, containing 5 questions related to the topic. The questions allowed the free answers of the interviewees. Results: a greater understanding of the students about what infectious endocarditis and antibiotic prophylaxis has become, but with less knowledge in the identification of patients at risk and on the correct way to prevent it. Conclusion: there is weakness in the knowledge of the academic about the appropriate measures of prevention for infective endocarditis to be adopted in the dental routine, which may denote the necessity of a greater approach of the subject in the educational institutions.
