Abstract: Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases in adult and pediatric patients. Despite its use in pediatrics, no pharmaceutical formulations are intended exclusively for these patients, highlighting the importance of studies to obtain formulations for pediatrics, such as solutions and suspensions. Given this, this study aimed to conduct a bibliographic survey of studies addressing the development of liquid pharmaceutical formulations containing captopril intended for pediatric use. Therefore, this study consisted of an integrative literature review using the Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), and Pubmed databases, delimiting 2018 to May 2023. The searchers found 27 articles, of which only 3 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, highlighting the need for further studies. Among the liquid preparations containing captopril obtained from the studies, there are conventional solutions and suspensions of nanoparticles. The studies demonstrate the importance of developing these formulations for the pediatric public, as they may allow the customization of the dose according to the patient's age and pathophysiological conditions. In addition, important needs to be considered in preparing pediatric liquid formulations, such as palatability, physical-chemical stability, and the suitability of pharmaceutical excipients for pediatric patients, were highlighted. Thus, this review demonstrated that even though studies are exploring using captopril in liquid formulations for pediatric purposes, these studies are still scarce and deserve more attention from the scientific community. These studies are essential to meet the clinical needs of neonates and children, enabling safety, efficacy, and adherence to treatment in pediatric patients.
