Abstract: Nasal breathing plays a fundamental role in the development and health of babies. The lack of lip sealing due to habitual lip posture in children can promote respiratory inadequacy, such as mixed breathing (mouth and nose), causing behavioral and child health consequences, such as Mouth Breather Syndrome (BRS). To study therapeutic protocol for readjusting nasal breathing, specific for babies aged 0 to 2 years, reducing the possibility of mixed breathing in children at an early stage. This is a clinical, prospective, randomized, and controlled experimental study that was carried out in the city of Gurupi (TO), carried out after approval by the Research Ethics Committee under CAEE number: 57453322.7.0000.5518. All 75 children enrolled had persistent lack of lip seal and mixed breathing due to habit. These children were diagnosed in four municipal daycare centers in Gurupi, Tocantins. Three therapeutic protocol techniques were applied to three groups of children. Group 1: facial massage; Group 2: use of adhesive bandages (Tape) in the perioral region while the child sleeps; and Group 3: the combination of facial massage and the use of a bandage to sleep. All children had an average control period of 21 days, with photos taken and in-person exams. Parents were interviewed at the end of the study to identify their perception of the applied protocols and their results. 44 children were 72% male evaluated,. The anamnesis showed in the behavioral characteristics that 81% of the children had restless sleep, (45%) had frequent sore throats, and (31%) ground their teeth. In the parents' perception, the protocols would be recommended to treat babies. It is concluded that of the three protocols investigated, the techniques using Tape (groups 2 and 3) presented better immediate results for readjusting the child's lip seal. In the parents' perception, despite some difficulties in applying the protocols, the children improved their sleep and daytime behavior, and all parents would recommend these therapeutic techniques.
