Abstract: Animal shelters are places designed to welcome and promote quality of life for animals that mostly come from the streets. These environments function as drivers of fundamental concepts of well-being and the basic needs of animals. However, the overpopulation of cats in these places directly influences their psychological conditions, increasing the number of problematic and traumatized animals. The work was based on alerting people about the importance of animal shelters and how overpopulation harms the development of their normal activities. The analysis was carried out from the 4th to the 20th of February 2019, based on the criteria of food, cleaning, behavior and use of space to promote the normal activities of the sheltered animals. The home has 200 cats, most of them neutered, from rescues. Due to the traumatic and competitive history of the streets, cats take time to adapt to each other, showing a lot of anxiety and consequently aggression, especially when feeding. Is noted that the institution under study needs a better developed physical and professional structure. The use of other recreational tools can promote better animal quality, as well as training alternatives to facilitate the adoption of these animals. Thus promoting an increase in the well-being of the felines welcomed.
