Abstract: The search for new technologies that maximize the strength properties of the paper, observing the limiting position of the economic viability of the process, has become increasingly recurrent. The present work aims to evaluate the impact of the application of the biopolymers cationic and anionic tannin, microfibrillated cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose, in order to increase the physical-mechanical properties of cellulosic pulp for the production of kraftliner packaging. The incorporations of the additives in the pulp were carried out with three levels of dosage being: which were compared with the control. Tests of resistance to ring crushing (RCT) and compression of corrugated cardboard (CMT) were performed. The results were positive in relation to the control, with an increase in the values obtained for each parameter evaluated, proving that there was adhesion of the biopolymer to the fiber matrix. The incorporation of tannins was better observed in the property of resistance to ring crushing. In view of the increase observed in the physical-mechanical property of the pulp evaluated with the addition of the biopolymer, it is concluded that there is a great potential for the use of tannin as an additive for packaging papers.
