Abstract: This study aims to assess the physicochemical quality of wines seized by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service, ensuring their compliance with the regulations established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA). The samples were obtained from seizures of wines that entered the country illegally, without proper labeling, during operations targeting smuggling and tax evasion in the Triângulo Mineiro region. The analyses were conducted at the University of the State of Minas Gerais (UEMG) – Ituiutaba Academic Unit, using standardized physicochemical methods, including the determination of alcohol content, total acidity, pH, chlorides, sulfates, reducing sugars, dry extract, and ash content. The results revealed that, although most samples were within the legal limits, certain irregularities were detected. Samples C and F exhibited alcohol content exceeding the permissible threshold for fine wines, while sample F exceeded the sulfate limit by 42%, suggesting potential adulteration or improper acidity correction practices. These findings highlight the need for stringent regulatory oversight to ensure wine compliance with current legislation and safeguard consumer health. Moreover, they underscore the critical role of physicochemical analysis in detecting fraud and irregularities, contributing to the enhancement of quality control measures in the Brazilian wine industry.
