Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a rare neuromuscular disease caused by mutations in the gene that encodes dystrophin, a structural protein essential for muscle cells. The significant clinical impacts of dystrophy and its progression have been widely documented in various studies, highlighting how this condition profoundly affects quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To identify in the literature the impacts on the quality of life of patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy evaluated in different clinical and social contexts. RESULTS: Severe urinary symptoms are associated with lower quality of life (QoL) and functional autonomy in individuals with DMD. The psychosocial impacts of the disease, influenced by knowledge about its progression, social barriers, and family support, were highlighted in the literature. DMD patients in Japan face challenges such as bullying, job loss, and family care, particularly from mothers, in low-income contexts. The high prevalence of chronic pain is significantly related to psychological distress and a reduction in health-related quality of life in children with DMD. Loss of ambulation contributed 88% to the decline in the average utility score of HUI3, while loss of mobility accounted for 66% of the decline in HUI2. Finally, it was noted that most quality of life assessment tools in DMD have low quality and inconsistent validity. CONCLUSIONS: It is essential to develop therapeutic and support strategies, both in clinical and social contexts, aimed at improving the quality of life and well-being of patients with DMD, as well as promoting awareness and inclusive education in schools and communities.
