Abstract: The image that decades ago reflected a scenario where the river was a symbol of life for its biodiversity, as well as a leisure space and attractive landscape, gave way to an image of extreme abandonment in urban environments throughout Brazil, with emphasis on Salvador. The change of approach and perception about these rivers is fundamental to promote the transformation of the environment. Before proposing this change, it is necessary to know the community that lives with the urban river and its problems. Given this context, the objective of this work is to evaluate the perception of the population that lives around the Camarajipe River, in Salvador-Bahia, regarding its urban-environmental conditions. In order to collect the population's perceptions, the Focus Group technique was used. With the recordings and/or filming made in each of the three focus groups carried out in three stretches of Rio, each speech was transcribed literally and these were analyzed from the Discourse of the Collective Subject (DSC). The analysis of the discussions promoted by the focus groups led to the conclusion that the current condition of the Camarajipe River has a negative impact on the population that lives in its surroundings, especially in terms of health and environmental comfort.
