Abstract: Strenght training is considered a fundamental element in developing exercise programs to improve health, overall fitness, and athletic performance. While widely recognized and effective, the traditional prescription model has some drawbacks in its programming structure. The traditional model adopts a fixed structure for prescribing intensity and volume that is not adaptable to the practitioner's daily neuromuscular state. In contrast, autoregulation-based prescription models represent an alternative to address some limitations observed in traditional models. Autoregulation is a process used to manipulate acute prescription variables based on individual performance measures or subjective responses to adjust the training stimulus and optimize adaptive responses precisely. Current evidence suggests that objective and subjective self-regulation methods effectively promote neuromuscular gains. This chapter aims to present and discuss the practical applications of objective and subjective autoregulation methods in strength training, focusing on the prescription of intensity and volume variables in different practice contexts, such as clinical, sports, and recreational settings.
