AUTORIZAÇÃO DO CURSO LIVRE DE CÁLCULO DIFERENCIAL E INTEGRAL CONCEDIDO PELA ESCOLA POLITÉCNICA DO RIO DE JANEIRO
O objetivo deste artigo é analisar aspectos históricos relacionados ao Curso Livre de Cálculo Diferencial e Integral autorizado pela congregação da Escola Politécnica do Rio de Janeiro ao engenheiro Chagas Doria em 1887. Como fonte utiliza-se edições publicadas entre os anos de 1879 e 1891 da Revista de Engenharia, com periodicidade mensal. Para tal análise, baseia-se no conceito de disseminação do conhecimento enunciado por Peter Burke. Como resultado observou-se que neste período o Cálculo Diferencia e Integral além de sua importância matemática para subsidiar a formação de engenheiros possuía também sua importância ideológica, em outras palavras, quem sabia Cálculo Diferencial e Integral era muito valorizado dentro da sociedade e o curso ocorreu como uma das formas de disseminar conhecimento.

Abstract:
The objective of this article is to analyze historical aspects related to the Open Course on Differential and Integral Calculus authorized by the congregation of the Polytechnic School of Rio de Janeiro to the engineer Chagas Doria in 1887. The source uses editions published between the years 1879 and 1891 of the Revista de Engenharia, on a monthly basis. For such analysis, it is based on the concept of knowledge dissemination enunciated by Peter Burke. As a result, it was observed that in this period, the Differential and Integral Calculus, in addition to its mathematical importance to support the training of engineers, also had its ideological importance, in other words, those who knew Differential and Integral Calculus were highly valued within society and the course took place as one of the ways to disseminate knowledge.
