Abstract: Self-medication, that is, the use of medicines on your own or on the recommendation of unqualified people, without prior evaluation by a trained professional, can cause numerous problems, such as intoxication, which is one of the most dangerous and in times of pandemic, the search for medicines on their own became more intense. Many people are influenced by the circulation of so-called fake news about medicines to combat the coronavirus. With the fear of contamination and restrictions on leaving the house, many took medications that they could order at home and that were generally recommended in newspapers and television advertisements. Objective: The objective of this work is to show the impact that the pandemic had on the practice of self-medication. Methodology: Bibliometric study carried out in the VHL, PubMed and SciELO databases using the descriptors self-medication, COVID-19, use of medicines, using the Boolean and as an aid. Results: It was found that publications between 2021 and 2023 are more extensive; however, the authorship was mostly gathered between 2020 and 2024 authors responsible for the study, in a total of 8 articles, it was observed that the majority of references were national, while international ones were less cited; The selected articles mostly come from magazines. Conclusion: We managed to achieve the desired objectives with this research. The result allowed us to assess that although the topic is important, there is still a need for new research, considering all aspects related to the impacts of the pandemic and self-medication on the general public and in particular individuals. With this, this bibliometric analysis research can contribute to studies related to the topic as well as the use of this methodology, enabling possible reflections by researchers, academia and society as a whole.
