Abstract: The skin is the main organ that transmits our physical characteristics, allowing us to create a visual identity. Acceptance of the inhabited body occurs, for the most part, by verifying the agreement between what is seen and what is felt. Psychodermatological disorders can be divided into four groups. Secondary psychiatric disorder means that patients can develop psycho-emotional issues because of the dermatological disease. It is therefore essential to identify the relationship between patients with hidradenitis suppurativa and their self-esteem and self-image, and the psychological suffering they experience because of the disease. To do this, a questionnaire containing 10 questions was made available on Google Forms, and participants were recruited via the social network Facebook. However, this is a qualitative study which aims to study the phenomenon, considering its context. The answers were analyzed using Bardin's method, grouping them by categories and similarities. Sixty-five people took part in the survey. Patients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa have lowered self-esteem due to their health conditions, as well as feelings of guilt, sadness, shame and social isolation. It is therefore essential that a HS patient is accompanied by a psychology professional so that they can re-signify their feelings in relation to the pain that is so excruciating, as well as further psychological and dermatological research in the area in question.
