Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Dengue is caused by infection with the dengue virus and clinical manifestations, about 80% of primary DENVs infections show no symptoms with only less than 20% of infected individuals showing clinical manifestations. Dengue is characterized by severe headaches, mild fever, skin rashes, muscle and joint pain, nausea and vomiting. Due to the lack of effective antiviral drugs and vaccines, several therapeutic and control strategies have been proposed. METHOD: This is a descriptive study, of the narrative type, which aims to describe current affairs regarding dengue, its signs and symptoms and their respective treatments, from a theoretical point of view, through materials that have already been published on the topic. in question, through analysis and interpretation of the literature. The inclusion criteria were: articles in Portuguese and English; published between 2020 and 2023 and which addressed the themes proposed for this research, review-type studies made available in full. DISCUSSION: There is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue. The World Health Organization (WHO) has indicated the development of tetravalent DENV vaccine on high priority basis for more money winning tactics for dengue deterrence. Generally, dengue resolves on its own. Fluid replacement, analgesics as supportive care, and bed rest are usually sufficient . There is no known medication that can be used to treat this condition, however, fever can be treated with paracetamol. Careful management of severe dengue is necessary. For flexible management considerations and proactive treatment of bleeding, Methylprednisolone has been demonstrated in a single dose, but is not recommended by WHO and CDC, due to risk factors for the development of immunosuppression, hyperglycemia and gastrointestinal bleeding. In treating dengue shock, there are no mortality benefits. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that understanding the characteristics of the virus and epidemiology is essential to obtain basic and clinical knowledge, as well as the pattern and status of dengue spread. Different factors and mechanisms are believed to be involved in presentation, including immune augmentation, dysregulation, viral virulence, host genetic susceptibility, and dengue antibodies.
