Abstract: Friction injury or skin tears is a wound that occurs due to mechanical trauma, which may be skin shearing, friction or blunt trauma. These injuries have the main characteristic of being a shallow wound, in which at some point in their evolution there is the presence of a skin flap, which may be partial thickness or full thickness. Objective: to describe nurses’ interventions in the prevention and treatment of skin tears. Methodology: this study consists of an integrative review of the literature, carried out through the Scielo, VHL and PubMed databases. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, articles were selected for this research. Results and Discussion: according to the articles analyzed and studied during this work, knowledge of the anatomy of the skin and the pathophysiological changes related to the aging of the integumentary system is essential to allow nurses to have a better understanding of the formation of skin tears among the elderly. Conclusion: the literature review made it possible to find highly relevant materials to support nursing care and enrich scientific knowledge.
