ATUAÇÃO DO CIRURGIÃO-DENTISTA NA PREVENÇÃO E DIAGNÓSTICO DO CÂNCER BUCAL: CONDIÇÕES SOCIOECONÔMICAS E FATORES ASSOCIADOS

• Abstract: Introduction: Oral cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm of the head and neck, in which most individuals who present the pathology can die within approximately five years after diagnosis. Objective: is to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the dentist's role in preventing and diagnosing oral cancer and correlating it with socioeconomic conditions and associated factors. Methodology: This is an integrative review, with a qualitative approach, carried out from August 2022 to May 2023, with a search in the databases: BVS, LILACS, BBO, SCIELO, PUBMED. Descriptors: Oral Neoplasms; Socioeconomic Factors; Dental surgeon and were associated with Boolean operators. Inclusion: articles published between 2013 and 2023 in full, relevant and available in Portuguese, English, Spanish. Exclusion of incomplete, repeated texts with no relevance to the topic. Results and Discussion: 24 studies were selected. The dentist plays an important role in discussing, guiding and encouraging the prevention of oral cancer, with patients' interest in putting healthy habits into practice and rejecting smoking and drinking, which are the main risk factors, minimizing the incidence. of the disease. The diagnosis is carried out in specialized outpatient care services, Dental Specialty Centers. Conclusion: The dentist is essential in the prevention and early diagnosis of oral cancer. He is responsible for training himself, improving his technical-scientific skills 4 and developing skills in perceiving the patient's needs in order to provide quality services and enable well-being, with care that focuses on the physical, psychological and social dimensions.
