Abstract: : Introduction: Cancer is a term that encompasses more than 100 different types of malignancies that have in common the disordered growth of cells, which can invade adjacent tissues or distant organs. Dividing quickly, these cells tend to be very aggressive and uncontrollable, determining the formation of tumors, which can spread to other regions of the body. Nursing in the performance of its profession is faced with patients with the most varied types of cancer, based on this observation, the need arose to write this chapter, in order to provide better care to these patients, as well as their families. Objective: to describe the role of the nurse who assists the patient with colorectal cancer during hospitalization. Methodology: Experience report on the role of nurses with cancer patients, in a clinical inpatient unit of a university hospital, in May 2022, located in Porto Alegre. Experiencereport: Inpatient in a clinical inpatient unit for cancer treatment, anamnesis, physical examination is performed, the presence or absence of a support network is verified, limitations for self-care, food acceptance, drug therapy is managed prescribed and care is provided for complications and a doctor's request if necessary. Other teams may be requested (via system consulting), according to the nurse's assessment. Conclusion: The importance of the nurse's role in the hospitalization of the cancer patient was evidenced, through the integral vision centered on the patient at all stages of diagnosis, curative treatment or symptom control, examinations and family support. Oncology care requires nurses not only to have knowledge of the disease itself, but also to be able to deal with patients' feelings and with their own emotions towards the patient with or without the possibility of cure, seeking care each time. more humanized.
