Abstract: Patients admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICU) require complex care due to the severity of their clinical condition. In this context, nursing plays a fundamental role in their recovery, demanding technical, theoretical, and emotional preparation. For effective performance, nurses must have extensive knowledge of critical conditions, therapeutic interventions, and equipment management, as well as stay updated with best practices. From this perspective, the objective of this research was to analyze the role of nurses in the monitoring of invasive arterial pressure (IAP) in the ICU, highlighting the importance of continuing education for improving clinical practice. This study was a narrative literature review, with searches conducted in the PubMed, Lilacs, and Scielo databases. The results showed that IAP monitoring is an essential procedure in ICUs, providing continuous and accurate measurements, especially in hemodynamically unstable patients. Nurses play a central role in this process, from catheter insertion to continuous monitoring, data interpretation, and prevention of complications such as infections and thrombosis. Continuing education and the application of pedagogical frameworks, such as David Ausubel’s theory, proved fundamental for nurses' training, promoting meaningful learning by connecting new knowledge to pre-existing cognitive structures. This is crucial in a highly technological environment like the ICU, where constant updating and technical preparation are essential for handling complex situations and ensuring patient safety. Therefore, the integration of continuing education, meaningful learning, and clinical practice is essential to strengthening the role of nurses in IAP monitoring, ensuring safe and high-quality care for critically ill patients in ICUs.
