Abstract: Physical activity (PA) in the elderly is central as it delays the onset of some diseases, decreased cognitive function and muscle weakening, which is the cause of many falls in the elderly. People live longer, but we must also ensure that they live in good health and that their lives are meaningful and dignified. In Portugal, little is known about the practice of physical activity among elderly people and what types of variables influence it. These data are important for designing intervention programs in the context of active aging. Objective: To map the practice of physical activity in the elderly in Portugal and its impacts on the health of the elderly. Methodology: Scoping review in accordance with the guidelines of the Joana Brigues Institute (JBI, 2021). Search carried out in different databases using the search engines ESBSCO and PubMed, based on the acronym PCC: P (elderly), C (physical activity), C (Portugal). After selecting potentially relevant articles published in English, Portuguese and Spanish, the research took place from September 2023 to December 2023. Inclusion criteria: studies carried out only on elderly people (over 65 years old), Portuguese, with access to the full text, primary studies and reviews, whose main interest is physical activity in the elderly. Results: Initially, 86 eligible articles were identified, after applying the inclusion criteria, resulting in a total of 6 articles for analysis. Conclusions: Physical activity levels in the elderly population vary from region to region, vary with age and vary from gender to gender. As they age, older people tend to reduce their physical activity levels, which means they spend more time sitting without any movement.
