• Abstract: This study aims to investigate theimportance of pharmaceutical care in the use ofmethylphenidate in children diagnosed with AttentionDeficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The methodologyused was a narrative literature review, which gathersinformation from various authors on a specific topic, relevant for knowledge updating and continuededucation within a short time frame. Methodology: Articles published between 2013 and 2023, focusing onthe use of methylphenidate in children with ADHD, wereselected from the electronic databases SciELO, MEDLINE, LILACS, and the Virtual Health Library. Exclusion criteria encompassed incomplete texts, simpleabstracts, case reports, brochures, and studies notconsidering the use of methylphenidate in children withADHD. The selected sample was read, and relevantinformation was collected for the study's construction, which, after qualitative analysis, served as the basis for this literature review. Results: The etiology andepidemiology of ADHD were analyzed, along with themain precautions that pharmacists should take whendispensing methylphenidate to children with ADHD. The adverse effects of prolonged methylphenidate use onchildren's neurobehavioral development and the primaryrecommendations for parents and caregivers of childrenundergoing methylphenidate treatment were alsoexplored. Conclusion: Pharmaceutical care is essentialto ensure the safety and efficacy of methylphenidatetreatment in children with ADHD. It is important for parents and caregivers to be aware of the necessaryprecautions for the treatment's success. Keywords: Pharmaceutical care, Methylphenidate, ADHD, Children
