Abstract: Bruxism is a parafunctional activity characterized by clenching or grinding of the teeth and may occur during sleep (sleep bruxism) or during wakefulness. In childhood, this condition may be associated with changes in occlusal development and breathing patterns. Objective: To investigate the association between bruxism and mixed breathing patterns in children aged 2 to 5 years assisted at Primary Health Care Units in Gurupi, Tocantins, Brazil, within the context of the Boquinha do Bebê Program. Methodology: This was a prospective epidemiological and clinical study with a quantitative approach, conducted in the municipality of Gurupi, Tocantins. Children enrolled in the Boquinha do Bebê Program were initially screened during routine follow- up visits. Those presenting clinical signs of dental wear and/or fractures underwent detailed clinical examination, in addition to the application of a structured questionnaire to their caregivers. The collected data were organized and analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify possible associations between bruxism and mixed breathing patterns. Results: The study included 13 children whose caregivers agreed to participate. The presence of bruxism associated with different degrees of malocclusion and the occurrence of mixed breathing patterns were observed, suggesting a possible relationship between these conditions. Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of early screening for bruxism and the assessment of breathing patterns in early childhood, contributing to the development of preventive and early intervention strategies in pediatric oral health.
