As alterações congênitas correspondem a anormalidades estruturais ou funcionais presentes ao nascimento. Na espécie canina, embora existam poucos estudos, estima-se que ocorram em 1% a 2% dos animais. Essas anomalias podem ser letais, semiletais ou compatíveis com a vida, podendo gerar apenas alterações estéticas ou não produzir efeitos clínicos relevantes. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo descrever múltiplas anomalias congênitas identificadas em um neonato canino. Um filhote macho, da raça Poodle, com um mês de idade, foi encaminhado ao atendimento clínico apresentando hiporexia, porte inferior ao esperado para a idade e distensão abdominal. O exame físico revelou diversas alterações congênitas, incluindo atresia anal, agenesia das vértebras coccígeas e hipospadia escrotal, esta última caracterizada pela presença de um óstio localizado no terço caudal do corpo do pênis. Ao redor do orifício uretral anômalo observavam-se urina e fezes amolecidas, achado sugestivo de fístula uretrorretal. Havia, ainda, fusão incompleta da rafe prepucial, com exposição total da lâmina interna do prepúcio e do pênis, que se apresentava aplásico. Optou-se por tratamento cirúrgico; entretanto, o animal veio a óbito durante o procedimento, e não foi possível realizar necropsia. A avaliação minuciosa de neonatos caninos deve sempre contemplar a investigação de anomalias congênitas, tendo em vista que muitas delas podem comprometer o desenvolvimento e o bem-estar dos animais.

  • Abstract: Congenital abnormalities are structural or functional defects present at birth. In the canine species, although few studies are available, it is estimated that congenital disorders occur in 1% to 2% of individuals. These anomalies may be lethal, sublethal, or compatible with life, potentially causing only cosmetic alterations or, in some cases, no clinically relevant effects. The present report aimed to describe multiple congenital anomalies identified in a neonatal dog. A one-month-old male Poodle puppy was presented for clinical evaluation with a history of hyporexia, body size smaller than expected for age, and abdominal distension. Physical examination revealed several congenital defects, including anal atresia, agenesis of the coccygeal vertebrae, and scrotal hypospadias, the latter characterized by the presence of an ostium located in the caudal third of the penile body. Around the abnormal urethral opening, urine and softened fecal material were observed, a finding suggestive of a urethrorectal fistula. Additional abnormalities included incomplete fusion of the preputial raphe, resulting in complete exposure of the inner preputial lamina and the penis, which was aplastic. Surgical correction was attempted; however, the puppy died during the procedure, and necropsy could not be performed. A thorough physical examination of canine neonates should always include the assessment of potential congenital anomalies, as many of these defects may impair development and compromise animal welfare
