Abstract: Analyzing the problems of a medieval universe, where the main reference was religious, we find the primordial dilemma of that time: the debate between faith and reason. Anselmo de Aosta believes that it is necessary to “believe to understand” and from this conception, it is assumed that the author ranked faith above reason. Anselmo worked with dialectics, therefore, even though he was seeking a philosophical discourse whose basis was faith, his argument was built on logical-rational arguments. Although the work "Cur Deus Homo" is primarily a theological work, Anselm addresses some ethical issues, such as moral obligations, justice, mercy and humility, which are relevant to understanding the relationship between God and humanity and the search for salvation ( Soteriological Theory). In the present work, based on the work “Cur Deus Homo”, we seek to identify some relevant aspects that involve the presence of these ethical categories in the argumentation used by Anselmo, with the aim of investigating, in a second moment, how these categories are present in the argumentation of Anselmo about the Theory of Atonement, based on an emphasis on ethical-normative issues.
