Abstract: Encouraging the reading of different texts in the teaching of the mother tongue and to provide successful experiences to the students at different stages of their school life and incredible knowledge, as well as skills for the rest of their lives and allowing them to be heirs and continuators of a universal culture, becoming capable, critical and active. The reality of public education in recent years, shows us a discouraging scenario, with regard to mastery of the Portuguese language in the final years of elementary school. The research proposed here, will investigate the problem that students in the 9th year of elementary school at the Municipal Schools of the City of Cristinápolis in the State of Sergipe, They arrive in the last year of this type of education having mastered very poorly the reading of the codes of their mother tongue and most of the time considering the discipline boring and awful, for that reason, generally, they don't want to differentiate the textual typology of genres without mastering formal rules and with great difficulty in contextualizing and interpreting and developing criticality in diferents texts. For this, was necessary to investigate some interesting and questionable points regarding the issue of reading and learning about Portuguese language, especially in 9th year elementary school classes that got their final years without mastering the basic skills necessary for the use and application in the Portuguese language. Furthermore, Portuguese language in various every single day situations shows that is low rates in external assessments of basic education development. This study is of personal interest due to the affinity with the vernacular language area and for the scientific contribution that will bring benefits and improvements in theoretical support for the learning of students and practices of Portuguese language teachers in the municipality of Cristinápolis and to everyone who is interested in this theme. Therefore, the study proposed here focused on research in 9th grade classes at Municipal Schools in the City of Cristinápolis/SE. It is essential to highlight the low purchasing power of parents in acquiring culture, the conditions of public schools, the difficulties that Portuguese teachers face such as lack of resources, appreciation, but even so, they play a fundamental role in the student's education, even in the face of challenges and conflicts, its function is to raise awareness and form, aiming for intellectual growth, socializing it and contributing to its linguistic practices, that is, teaching Portuguese must be as real as possible, however with innovative practices and methodologies that be able to seduce and attract the student. Thus, the teacher does not only depend on his continued personal and professional training, but on awareness of his role as mediator, not adhering to complacent practices, but being certain that education transforms people's lives and that fighting for Quality education and wanting a better nation must be constant desires in the professional practice of each teacher. Finally, it is important highlighting that the data presented here reflect a synchrony, that is, at a given moment in the history of education in Cristinápolis City, different results can be obtained at another time, through subsequent research on students' pleasurable reading practices. in order to develop other skills in the Portuguese language.
