Abstract: Solanum paniculatum L., known as jurubeba, is a plant of the Solanaceae family widely distributed in Brazil, with uses in cooking and folk medicine. Its fruits are consumed as preserves and in wine production, while its bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins, confer anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant properties. Studies indicate its potential in the treatment of diabetes, infections and gastrointestinal parasites, as well as the presence of spinasterol, which is associated with anti-cancer activity. However, the plant can cause poisoning in farm animals. Scientific research into S. paniculatum is essential to validate its benefits and develop new herbal medicines, promoting its sustainable use and valuing traditional knowledge.
