Abstract: Knowledge about seed morphometry and seedling morphology is essential for conservation and seedling production of native species. The objective of this work was to characterize the seed morphology, aspects of germination physiology and to illustrate the stages of seedling formation of Ceiba speciosa. For the characterization of the seeds, morphometric evaluations were performed; the dynamics of water absorption of the seeds was characterized, and the germination description was carried out, from the time of seed imbibition until the emission of the cotyledons and the formation of the first protophyll. The seeds of Ceiba speciosa are angular with dark brown coloration. The embryo has cotyledons distinguishing the hypocotyl-radicle axis, the radicle is located at the apex of the seed and the cotyledons are membranous. The seeds have an average length of 7.49 mm, mass of 0,0816 g, width of 5.49 mm and thickness of 3.84 mm. The dynamics of seed imbibition in water occurred according to the triphasic patter of water uptake and the normal seedling is epigeal and presents axial main and robust, with light green hypocotyl, cylindrical, long and glabrous.
