Abstract: Among the species of parasitic worms, the helminth Ascaris lumbricoides is among the most frequent in a large part of the population in Brazil and in the world. It is popularly called roundworm, causing intestinal infection. It represents a major problem for public health worldwide due to low socioeconomic levels and precarious conditions of basic sanitation. Direct contact with moist soil, water and infected food facilitates the transmission of this type of parasite, or due to lack of hygiene and education, symptoms may arise regardless of the organ affected and the severity of the infection. In this context, the objective of this work was to approach, through a literature review, parasitism by Ascaris lumbricoides, with a view to a better understanding of this parasite. And for field research, the presentation to people of the community of Mauriti - CE, with the intention of synthesizing the knowledge about the parasite. Seeking to pass on in an explanatory way the importance of health education in the control and prevention of ascariasis, demonstrated by the studies important information for improvements to occur in its high rates, especially in the child population which are the most affected. Finally, the importance of health education with the Mauritian society is reinforced, so that they aim at prevention/health promotion, and carrying out this activity brought satisfactory results.
