Abstract: This article aimed to describe the unique characteristics of the physical environment of a municipal early childhood education center (CMEI). Early childhood education is the first step towards entering basic education, being considered the first stage. The Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education (LDB) guarantees that access to early childhood education is a human and social right of children; it is preparation for future years, and is important for pedagogical and cognitive development. The school space is the place that welcomes children in their pedagogical aspects; it is not just a decorated and fun environment, but a tool for preparation and learning. Therefore, this study sought to describe the peculiarities identified in the external spaces of a municipal early childhood education center (CMEI). From this perspective, qualitative research was conducted, with data collection through direct non-participant observation. Among the results, playful, pedagogical, and creative spaces are revealed that tend to contribute significantly to the next stages of basic education.
