Abstract: This article aims to analyze the fairy tale “Vasilisa the Beautiful” through the lens of Analytical Psychology developed by Carl Gustav Jung, focusing specifically on the archetypal representations of the Great Mother and the Wild Woman. The central research question is: How are the archetypal representations of the Great Mother and the Wild Woman, as theorized by Jung, structured and interrelated in the tale “Vasilisa the Beautiful”? Based on the premise that archetypes are universal symbolic expressions from the collective unconscious, this study seeks to understand how these symbolic figures manifest in the narrative of the Russian tale. The adopted methodology is a qualitative interpretative analysis grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Hillman (1992), Estés (1994), Nash (2007), Jung (2007), Sebernna (2010), Feist, Feist and Robert (2015), Franz (2016), Souza Bruni, Anaz (2020), and Neumann (2021), with particular emphasis on the concepts of Analytical Psychology and the relationships between mythology and the archetypes of the Great Mother and the Wild Woman. The analysis reveals the dual aspect of the Great Mother archetype, present in the stepmother and the witch Baba Yaga (as destructive forces), and the magical doll (as a nurturing force). Additionally, the protagonist Vasilisa embodies the feminine psychic initiation process, where intuition – a key trait of the Wild Woman – gradually awakens. The results indicate that the tale symbolises a journey of self-knowledge and emotional maturation, offering a rich field for Jungian symbolic analysis in fairy tales.
