Abstract: This article aims to discuss the relationship between the economy in the period of slavery in Brazil and education. Education enables the development of reflection in decision-making, the discovery and cultivation of their potential as human beings. So the meaning of educating must be understood in its real meaning, not only as instruction, with information transfer, but above all from the perspective of giving rise to a greater critical sense, creating new mentalities, always fostering greater learning. The way in which slavery developed in Brazil has a direct impact on the country's economic evolution, in such a way that it is also related in the educational sphere. In relation to the methodological aspects, this is a literature review, with the proposal to carry out a qualitative approach. The results show that school has a fundamental role in society. School is an organization that most influences human behavior in the socialization process, with the teacher being an important transformative agent who must take into account the needs of the school community in which he is inserted, being a source of knowledge and information for all who seek an improvement in the quality of life and improvement as an individual and a conscious human being.
