AS PESQUISAS DOS ANTROPÓLOGOS SARAH BOHANNAN E CLIFFORD GEERTZ E DO TEÓRICO CULTURAL STUART HALL PARA PENSAR O PROCESSO DE COMUNICAÇÃO
Estudamos como as estratégias teórico-metodológicas propostas pelos antropólogos Sarah Bohannan e Clifford Geertz são férteis para as pesquisas de Comunicação, especificamente, na construção de conhecimento sobre os processos de comunicação em relação a alteridade e a circulação de sentidos entre a produção e o consumo. Para tanto, demonstramos as aproximações entre essas abordagens e as da comunicação na contemporaneidade, enriquecida pelos diálogos com outras perspectivas, em especial, a do teórico cultural Stuart Hall. Analisamos como o caso de Cohen e os carneiros (Geertz), o da leitura de Hamlet junto aos Tiv (Bohannan) e o da indicação do juiz Clarence Thomas à Suprema Corte dos EUA (Hall) articulam-se conceitualmente e metodologicamente de forma semelhante. Identificamos como a Comunicação oferece, tal como a Antropologia Cultural e os Estudos Culturais, e, inclusive, com a contribuição destes saberes, conhecimento e problematização sobre a materialidade sociocultural.

Abstract:
We studied how the theoretical-methodological strategies proposed by anthropologists Sarah Bohannan and Clifford Geertz are fertile for Communication research, specifically, in the construction of knowledge about communication processes in relation to otherness and the circulation of meanings between production and consumption. To this end, we demonstrate the similarities between these approaches and those of contemporary communication, enriched by dialogues with other perspectives, in particular, that of the cultural theorist Stuart Hall. We analyzed how the case of Cohen and the sheep (Geertz), that of Hamlet reading with the Tiv (Bohannan) and that of the appointment of Judge Clarence Thomas to the US Supreme Court (Hall) are conceptually and methodologically articulated in a similar way. We identified how Communication offers, such as Cultural Anthropology and Cultural Studies, and even with the contribution of this knowledge, knowledge and problematization about sociocultural materiality.
