AS PAIXÕES DO ITALIANO MECARELLI: FOTOGRAFIA E PARATY
O objetivo desta comunicação é descrever a trajetória do italiano Giancarlo Mecarelli como gestor cultural do Paraty Em Foco (PEF), o Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Paraty, um dos importantes produtos culturais realizados no município de Paraty, no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, desde 2005. Devido ao isolamento social, ocasionado pela pandemia de COVID-19, que manteve a cidade fechada para o turismo durante o primeiro semestre de 2020, optou-se por entrevistar Mecarelli remotamente e, também, utilizou-se de acervo fotográfico referente às saídas de campo realizadas, durante as edições de 2017, 2018 e 2019 do PEF. Apoia-se nos conceitos de Chagas (2018), Recuero (2006), Rubim (2016, 2019), Vásquez (2012, 2020) e Vich (2017). A pesquisa justifica-se pela importância dada aos eventos culturais da cidade, junto ao reconhecimento mundial por conquistar o título de Patrimônio Mundial (misto) pela UNESCO e pelas expressivas mudanças no cenário cultural por conta da Pandemia de Covid-19. Constatou-se que nos três anos citados, o investimento em projetos culturais por parte das empresas vem decrescendo. A observação em campo indica, também, que a dedicação à administração/planejamento do projeto do PEF, no relacionamento e reconhecimento das populações locais, o seu empenho em construir narrativas que dialoguem – de forma multidisciplinar - com o contexto contemporâneo mundial, tornou o apaixonado “militante” da imagem em um eficaz organizador cultural. E que a atuação de Mecarelli como gestor tem sido fundamental para a sobrevivência de um dos maiores festivais de fotografia do país.

Abstract:
The objective of this communication is to describe the trajectory of the Italian Giancarlo Mecarelli as cultural manager of Paraty Em Foco (PEF), the Paraty International Photography Festival, one of the important cultural products held in the municipality of Paraty, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, since 2005. Due to the social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which kept the city closed to tourism during the first half of 2020, it was decided to interview Mecarelli remotely and also used a photographic collection regarding the exits carried out during the 2017, 2018, and 2019 editions of the PEF. It is based on the concepts of Chagas (2018), Recuero (2006), Rubim (2016, 2019), Vásquez (2012, 2020) and Vich (2017). The research is justified by the importance given to cultural events in the city, together with the worldwide recognition for winning the title of World Heritage (mixed) by UNESCO and by the expressive changes in the cultural scenario due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was found that in the three years mentioned, the investment in cultural projects by companies has been decreasing. Field observation also indicates that the dedication to the administration/planning of the PEF project, in the relationship and recognition of local populations, its commitment to building narratives that dialogue - in a multidisciplinary way - with the contemporary world context, made the passionate “militant” of the image into an effective cultural organizer. And that Mecarelli's role as a manager has been fundamental for the survival of one of the largest photography festivals in the country.
