Abstract: The present study aims to address the difficulties faced by women with urinary incontinence (UI), seeking to compile and analyze the available evidence regarding the impact of this condition on mental health, quality of life, and social and physical aspects of those affected by the disorder. UI is characterized by the involuntary loss of urine, a condition that affects women of all ages, but is more prevalent in those of older age groups, particularly after menopause and in the ones who have undergone vaginal childbirth. This study is justified by the daily difficulties experienced by women living with UI, which transcend the physical manifestations of this condition. A detailed analysis of the topic highlights the deep effect of this reality on these women’s lives, revealing the daily challenge they face. As analysis’ results, adverse feelings triggered by incontinence, such as shame, embarrassment and the sensation of going back to a state of infantile dependence, stand out as significant obstacles. Additionally, the fear of emitting unwanted urine odors and the dread of doing it in public intensify these negative emotions, making social and personal experiences extremely distressing. A systematic review will be used as the methodological approach to provide theoretical support for this study.
