Abstract: The study analyzed the contributions of mathematical language in the final years of high school, highlighting its importance for the development of logical reasoning, concept interpretation, and students’ intellectual autonomy. The research originated from observations made during the Supervised Internship II in a 3rd-year high school class at Centro de Ensino Reitor Ribamar Carvalho, in the municipality of Codó, Maranhão, where difficulties were identified in students’ recognition and proper use of mathematical symbols. To address this issue, a pedagogical intervention based on practical and contextualized activities was developed. The qualitative approach revealed improvements in students’ understanding of symbols, interpretation of problem statements, and problem-solving skills, as well as greater engagement with mathematics. The results reinforce the importance of mathematical language for learning and for the development of essential cognitive skills.
