AS AÇÕES DE REQUALIFICAÇÃO CIVIL DE PESSOAS TRANSEXUAIS E O PAPEL DA DEFENSORIA PÚBLICA DO ESTADO DO RIO DE JANEIRO (DPRJ)
O presente artigo aborda alguns
aspectos do processo de requalificação civil
para alteração de nome e sexo das pessoas
transexuais, como parte de sua luta pela
obtenção de cidadania e dignidade. Fruto de
pesquisa de campo de doutorado, o texto objetiva
destacar a importância da requalificação para o
próprio reconhecimento da referida população,
considerando a necessidade de congruência
entre identidade de gênero e documentos civis.
Por fim, destaca-se que a árdua e ingrata luta
pela requalificação civil de pessoas transexuais
é uma estratégia que, a despeito de não garantir
a plena inserção na sociedade, assegura ao
indivíduo o direito de viver de acordo com a
identidade de gênero que lhe é condizente.

Abstract:
This article discusses some
aspects of the court proceedings of civil
requalification to change the name and gender
of transsexual people, as part of their struggle for
citizenship and dignity. As a result of a doctoral
field research, the text aims to highlight the
importance of requalification for the recognition
of this population, considering the need for
congruence between gender identity and civil
documents. Finally, the paper emphasizes that
the arduous and ungrateful struggle for the civil
requalification of transsexual people is a strategy
that, despite not guaranteeing full insertion in
society, guarantees the individual the right to
live in accordance with the appropriate gender
identity.
