ARTISTAS DA REPRESENTAÇÃO JAPONESA E PREMIAÇÕES NA BIENAL DE SÃO PAULO ENTRE 1951 E 1963
Este projeto se propôs a fazer o primeiro levantamento referente à participação de artistas da representação japonesa na Bienal de São Paulo entre 1951 e 1963, cujas obras foram incorporadas ao acervo do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM/SP) como prêmios-aquisição ou prêmios regulamentares, e que mais tarde foram transferidas ao acervo do Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC/USP). Foram 9 obras no total, sendo elas: 3 gravuras de Shikō Munakata (premiadas na 3ª Bienal de São Paulo, 1955), 5 gravuras de Yōzō Hamaguchi (premiadas na 4ª Bienal, 1957) e uma pintura de Minoru Kawabata (premiada na 5ª Bienal, 1959). Em vista disso, o estudo se aprofundou a partir da análise formal das obras, procurando compreender sua relação com o sistema de premiação da Bienal de São Paulo e a cena artística internacional dos anos 1950, baseando-se em fontes documentais.

Abstract:
This project intended to make the first survey regarding the Japanese delegation at the São Paulo Biennial from 1951 to 1961, whose artworks were firstly incorporated into the collection of the Modern Art Museum of São Paulo by means of the acquisition prizes or the regular prizes. Later, they were transferred to the Contemporary Art Museum of São Paulo. Nine artworks were taken into consideration: 3 prints donated by Shiko Munakata at the III Biennial, 1955; 5 prints donated by Yozo Hamaguchi at the IV Biennial, 1957; one painting donated by Minoru Kawabata at the V Biennial, 1959. Seeing that, this research attempted to proceed through a formal analysis of the works, studying their relationship with the São Paulo Biennial award system and the international art scene in the 50’s, making use of archival font.
